Snow Fairy Shima Enaga Meets Hokkaido's Soul Drink! A Look at the New White Guarana Collaboration
The Shima Enaga is a wild bird found only in Hokkaido, Japan. Known as the "Snow Fairy," its adorable appearance has captivated many, leading to a recent boom in popularity. Today, we'll introduce "Shima Enaga White Guarana," a delightful fusion of this incredibly cute bird and Guarana, Hokkaido's soul drink.
Shima Enaga Illustrations on the Package
With its beady eyes and a perfectly round form like a little dumpling... the label is so irresistibly cute you can't help but pick it up.
This product was developed by OBARA Co., Ltd., headquartered in Nanae Town, Hokkaido. They are the manufacturers of the still-popular Co-up Guarana. The company is celebrating its 92nd anniversary this year!
Co-up Guarana was originally developed to compete with Coca-Cola as it entered the Japanese market, which is why its color resembles cola. However, this new guarana is named "White Guarana" and has a white color inspired by the Shima Enaga.
White and fluffy. The "Snow Fairy" Shima Enaga
According to OBARA, they sold it as a limited edition product late last year, and it sold out immediately. The additional production run also sold out just as quickly, receiving a much greater response than expected. Although it was intended as a winter-exclusive item, stores that carried it requested that it be sold year-round due to its high sales.
Shimae【naga】 and 【Ga】ra【na】... if you look closely, they share two syllables. Perhaps this was a destined combination!
Where Can You Buy It?
As it's a limited quantity sale, exact locations are not fully known, but research shows it has been sold at Hokkaido product fairs, Hokkaido souvenir shops, Michi-no-Eki (roadside stations), and supermarkets. (The author spotted it at the Sunagawa Service Area about a month ago!) It also seems to be available for purchase online, so if you're interested, be sure to check it out.
Bottled Co-up Guarana is also quite a rare find
The Latest on Guarana
More and more fascinating Guarana products from OBARA are appearing, such as "Guaranapple," an apple-flavored guarana in collaboration with AEON, and the "Co-up Guarana x Hakodate Velodrome 19th Summer Night Festival Commemorative Bottle" (limited time).
The commemorative bottle contained twice the normal amount of guarana extract
We can't wait to see what new Guarana they'll come up with next.
