The Name Comes from Asahikawa's City Bird, the Bohemian Waxwing

"WAX WINGS" is the English name for a bird called the "Kirenjaku," or Bohemian Waxwing. This bird, designated as the city bird of Asahikawa, returns from its breeding grounds in winter and watches over the town from the branches of Japanese rowan trees. The name of the snow removal team embodies the spirit of these birds, signifying their role in "protecting the safety of Asahikawa Airport in winter."

First Domestic LCC Regular Service to Launch in December

Speaking of Asahikawa Airport, the first-ever scheduled LCC service connecting Asahikawa and Tokyo-Narita is set to launch on December 15, 2023.
