ESTA is completely recreated on a sled! The sight of the sled blasting away was greeted with cheers of "Everything is nostalgic" and "This is a high artistic achievement.
I competed in the Moere Mountain Bakkoso Sledding Contest with Esta!
Our record was 35th/100th. I think the quality of the fine decorations (since everyone did a great job) was up there!
The three of us and our friends recreated even the smallest details of the decorations.
We interviewed Mr. Ichichan of Smile, one of the creators of the sled, about the production process and his motivation for participating.
It is a very detailed reproduction, but how long did it take you to make it?
The production period was about a month, but one of the members was good at crafts, so the production went smoothly. He made the miniatures out of paper, which I think helped unify the image. Incidentally, the other member was good at music, so I asked him to play the theme song that was playing at Esta by ear, and we skated with that music playing during the show.
What was the most difficult part of the project?
Actually, this was my first time participating in this project, so I had no idea how to make it in the first place. We went through a lot of trial and error, and we were conscious of making a sturdy sled and improving the quality of the detailed reproductions. Just before completion, we added the logo and bus terminal letters, but because of the detailed decorations, we were afraid that we couldn't test the sled and had to go out on our own.
This was your first time participating in this event. What made you decide to participate in this competition?
I found the Sapporo City flyer and approached two other people. We had been in contact when I returned to Sapporo from Honshu last year, and we were talking about what we wanted to do, and then I found this event. It was very timely.
Although the sled is now disfigured...
When we asked where this sled is now kept, they told us that it was broken when they were sliding and playing with it... However, this sled, which was the result of the teamwork of three people, created a great buzz. I am very much looking forward to seeing what their next attempt will be to surprise everyone around them!
