Urahoro, a town with all primary industries where young people thrive

Urahoro Town

Urahoro Town is located in the Doto area of Hokkaido, midway between Obihiro and Kushiro, forming part of the Tokachi region. This community of about 4,200 people thrives on primary industries such as dairy farming, agriculture, fishing, and forestry. In particular, it is a "forest town," supported by forests that cover about 70% of its area. Furthermore, it is a town where young people are active in various fields, as represented by the "Urahoro Style" project, which nurtures children's affection for their hometown.

Spend a week with nature!

Participants in the work tour will learn the basics of forestry and experience full-scale tree planting. In the process of "afforestation," which is the cultivation of trees that will become timber in several decades, the task you will experience is "tree planting," where new trees are planted in the spring on land prepared in the fall. Through this experience, you can participate in the actual process of creating a forest. Wednesday is a day off, giving you free time to explore the charms of the surrounding town.
