"Like Another World!" A Breathtakingly Beautiful Scene Witnessed on a Remote Hokkaido Island: "This Will Be the Best Memory"
Okushiri Island, a remote island in the Sea of Japan off the southwestern tip of Hokkaido. A "breathtakingly beautiful scene" that suddenly appeared on this island is now a hot topic on social media.
Step outside the guesthouse, and you're in this world.

This view, which has garnered comments like "What an amazing sunset!" and "It's like another world," can be seen from "imacoco," a guesthouse on Okushiri Island. We spoke with the owner, Mr. Tonosaki, about this video that evokes a sense of the extraordinary.
Watching the Sunset While Enjoying Dinner
From Guesthouse "imacoco," you can see beautiful sunsets from the property, weather permitting. Mr. Tonosaki says he often chats with his family over dinner, saying things like, "Today's sunset is especially nice." The video he posted captured a moment during one such ordinary day when they spotted a particularly impressive sunset, and everyone stopped eating and rushed outside.
"imacoco is a guesthouse that values encounters and moving experiences. Whether you come alone or with someone, we want you to share the same moment with everyone who happens to be there and enjoy the encounters that travel brings," Mr. Tonosaki explained.
The Charm of Okushiri Island: "Doing Nothing"
We asked Mr. Tonosaki about what he thinks is the charm of Okushiri Island and what experiences he wants visitors to have there.
Beech forest on Okushiri Island
SUP experience in the "Okushiri Blue" waters
In spring and autumn, I recommend the beech forest guided tours, and in summer, the SUP tours. That said, the best way to spend your time is to tune your heart to the day's weather. Part of the island's charm is its atmosphere that encourages you to 'do nothing'.
Islands are often described as having 'nothing.' But that just means there are few man-made things. At least for our family, everything that makes us happy is here. I think cities have too many things, making it hard to notice what's truly necessary and difficult to feel gratitude.
I hope that in this extraordinary space, stripped of the unnecessary, people can find an opportunity to reflect on what is truly important in their own lives.
Let's share in the miracle that is already here, right now.
Encounters and experiences born in an extraordinary space. When you come to Okushiri Island, be sure to spend some heartwarming, island-style time.
