JR is the standard way to travel from Sapporo to Tomamu, and it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes by "Limited Express Ozora" or "Limited Express Tokachi". All cars on the "Limited Express Oozora" and "Limited Express Tokachi" have reserved seats, and the fare is 5,550 yen for reserved seats and 7,820 yen for green seats.

If you make a reservation for a JR ticket to Shintoku Station, which is next to Tomamu Station, through the website "Eki Net", you can purchase a reserved-seat ticket at a discount of up to 55% off the regular fare. Tokyu Tokudatte" cannot be used up to Tomamu Station, but by purchasing a ticket to Shintoku Station at a discount and getting off at the previous Tomamu Station, you can save money compared to the regular fare. Express Bus" for direct travel from Sapporo City
Ski buses from Sapporo City to Tomamu during the winter season are available on the "Bus Liner to/from Tomamu" which can be reserved through Hokkaido Access Network. To board the "Bus Liner to/from Tomamu," passengers must meet at the reserved boarding location. The ride from Sapporo City to Tomamu takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes and costs 6,500 yen one way. To board the bus, reservations must be made by phone or on the web, and payment must be made in advance.

Be careful when driving on winter roads "Cars and Rental Cars
To get to Tomamu by expressway from central Sapporo, take the Kita-Go IC to the Dohoh Expressway, then take the Chitose Eniwa JCT to the Dohto Expressway Eh, and get off at the Tomamu IC. The distance is about 145 kilometers and the travel time is about 2 hours, and the expressway toll is 3,800 yen. There are no gas stations in the Tomamu area and only one gas station on the East Hokkaido Expressway, so if you are driving to Tomamu, it is recommended to refuel before entering the East Hokkaido Expressway or refuel near Obihiro, Furano, or Yubari to have enough fuel for the trip.
Also, although a car is convenient because it can take you directly to your destination, you need to be careful on winter roads. If you are not accustomed to driving on winter roads, take it easy and use public transportation such as JR or buses, and enjoy your trip with safety first.
