Tomioka Station once existed in the seaside town of Okoppe, located in the east of Hokkaido. The stairs leading to the abandoned station remain, and are said to be like a tunnel leading to another world.

Stairs from an abandoned station that have remained for over 30 years

The Nayoro Main Line, on which Tomioka Station was located, once connected northern Hokkaido with the Okhotsk coast. The line was closed in 1989 and the tracks and platform were removed, but the stairs leading to the platform remain.
