"Shaanko shanko shanko shashan ga shan..." That unforgettable phrase etched in the summer memories of Hokkaido residents is finally getting a standalone CD release this summer! The "Kodomo Bon Odori Uta" was released on July 30, 2025, and has become so popular that it's selling out in stores and online. Furthermore, a free distribution of special "uchiwa" fans has begun at select CD shops in Hokkaido.

The Memorable "Shanko Shanko" for Hokkaido Residents Finally on a Standalone CD

Summer in Hokkaido brings to mind the "Kodomo Bon Odori" (Children's Bon Dance), dancing around a central scaffold, or yagura. It's a melody and the phrase "Shanko♪ Shanko♪" that everyone has heard at least once in their childhood. After about 70 years, the "Kodomo Bon Odori Uta" has been released as a standalone CD for the first time.

The CD, released on July 30, 2025, is a long-play version that runs for about an hour, repeating the song 25 times in a row. This makes it incredibly convenient and easy to use for actual Bon dances at neighborhood associations and local festivals!

"A Bigger Response Than Expected" - Stock Shortages in Some Stores and Online

This CD features a reprinted version of the film jacket from its 2002 cassette release. In addition to the original lyrics and choreography, it also includes a new commentary booklet, making it a piece filled with both nostalgia and novelty.

Immediately after its release, it saw stock shortages at various retailers and e-commerce sites, generating a response that far exceeded expectations. The manufacturer is reportedly working hard to produce additional copies.

Free Uchiwa Fan Distribution Has Started! Check the Store List and Availability in Advance

To commemorate the CD release, a free distribution of specially designed original uchiwa fans has also begun! The dazzling orange jacket design is printed directly on the fan. Distribution is starting sequentially, mainly at CD shops in Hokkaido, but please note that it will end once each store runs out of stock.
