The cat, sitting under a car, looks just like a mechanic in the middle of a repair. On social media, comments like "What a hardworking cat!", "Such an adorable mechanic," and "Looks like a seasoned pro" flooded in, and the post garnered over 40,000 likes.
A Monk in Hakodate Shares Stories of Local Cats
The person behind the post is Mr. Morinaga, who handles public relations for the Soto Zen Kokkasan Koryuji Temple in Funami-cho, Hakodate. Mr. Morinaga says he values "conveying the gentleness and tranquility found in everyday scenes." As part of this effort, he began posting photos of the cats living at the temple at the end of 2020.
His activities have gradually gained attention, even being featured in a documentary program. Through these cats, Mr. Morinaga continues to share the charm of the temple and the town.
Cat Photo Exhibition to be Held at the Temple
Koryuji Temple will host a solo exhibition by cat photographer Masayuki Oki, starting October 19th. The exhibition will feature 44 of Oki's works, along with about 12 pieces by Mr. Morinaga, the original poster. Why not visit and experience the peaceful moments woven by the cats and the town of Hakodate?
