Above the barcode are cows, barns, and silos reminiscent of the farm scenery of Hokkaido. Comments on social media include, "I never knew about this before," and "I love this kind of playfulness," with some even checking out the products in front of them, saying, "So is our butter!"
Why was it created? A playful barcode design
Why did this barcode design come about? We spoke to a representative from Megmilk Snow Brand, the manufacturer of Snow Brand Hokkaido Butter.
To help customers who pick up the product imagine the majestic farmland scenery of Hokkaido, we have left the historic Snow Brand Hokkaido Butter packaging unchanged, but have added a creative design to the barcode area. We have been using designer barcodes since around 2013. Please note that the image shown on X is an example of a product exclusive to Costco.
When you see a product, pay attention to the barcode.
