Yuni Town

A local pin badge available in a certain town in Hokkaido is gaining attention for its "over-the-top design." It features a "totally unexpected illustration" known only to a few. Its unique sense, completely different from other regional badges, has become a hot topic on social media.

I went to get the local Red Feather Community Chest pin badge from Yuni Town because it features the Yarikirenai River, which everyone loves.
This is just unbearable.

What you see in the photo is a pin badge designed to look exactly like the sign for the "Yarikirenai River"! The poster, "Katchan," who received this badge by donating to the Red Feather Community Chest in Yuni Town, Hokkaido, took a picture of the pin badge with the actual sign that inspired its design and posted it on X. The impact of the post drew comments on social media like, "I need this!", "Yuni Town is really pushing it," "This is unbearable," and "Where can I donate to get one?"

Why the Yarikirenai River on a Badge? We Asked the Red Feather Representative

Yarikirenai River

The name actually originates from the Ainu word "Yanke-nai," meaning "a river where fish don't live."

So, why was such a bold pin badge created? We spoke with a representative from the Social Welfare Corporation Hokkaido Community Chest Committee to find out more.

The design for the Yuni Town Community Chest Committee's exclusive pin badge is decided each year after brainstorming ideas within the committee. Until now, we have created pin badges with motifs that promote Yuni Town, such as its history, tourism, and local products. This year, however, we decided to change things up a bit and designed it with the 'Yarikirenai River,' a place known to those in the know, in the hope that more people will learn about it.
