"I want this!" A local pin badge from a town in Hokkaido is so bold its design is becoming a hot topic on social media.
A local pin badge available in a certain town in Hokkaido is attracting attention for its "overly bold design." It features an "unexpected design" that only those in the know will recognize. Its design, completely different from local badges from other regions, has become a hot topic on social media.
I received the local badge from the Red Feather Community Chest, as the Yuni Town badge features the design of the river that everyone loves so much. This is frustrating.
Quoted from @katchan0809's post
What is shown in the photo is a pin badge with the sign of "Yarikirenai River" designed on it! The poster, "Kacchan," who received this badge after donating to the Red Feather Community Fund in Yuni Town, Hokkaido, took a photo of the pin badge together with the sign that is the motif of the design and posted it on X. The impact of the photo has led to comments on social media such as "I want this," "They're attacking Yuni Town," "This is unbearable," and "Where should I donate?"
Why is the river so dangerous? We asked the person in charge of Red Feathers.
The actual name comes from the Ainu word "Yanke-nai," which means "a river where no fish live."
So why did such an ambitious pin badge design come into being? We spoke to a representative from the Hokkaido Community Chest of Japan, a social welfare corporation, about how it came about.

The Yuni Town Community Chest Committee's exclusive pin badges are chosen from ideas shared among the committee every year. Until now, the pin badges have been created with motifs that promote Yuni Town, such as its history, tourism, and local products. However, this year, we decided to change things up a bit and designed the "Yarikirenai River," a little-known river, with the hope of spreading awareness among even more people.

You'll want one without even thinking about it! There are other unique local badges too!
Local pin badges with red feathers are also available in other areas. This one from Otaru City features the "Otaru Lucky Kappa."
The Red Feather Community Chest creates local badges that reflect the characteristics of each region. Each badge features a design that symbolizes the individuality of the town, such as the local mascot "Otaru Unkappa" for Otaru City and the famous horse "Orfevre" for Shiraoi Town.
