A Relaxing Retreat in Urahoro, Tokachi: Discover a Community Hub for Local Lunches and Casual Evenings
Opening a Business After Returning Home, with a Love for Urahoro
The calm and gentle atmosphere of the interior
The owner, Tomomi, is from Urahoro. After working as a dental hygienist in Obihiro, her long-held passion for cooking grew, and at the age of 30, she changed careers. She gained experience working for about four years at places like Morihico Coffee and the restaurant Gohanya Haruya in Sapporo before returning to her hometown to open her own shop.
The shop's name, "futatsuki" (月月), is a nod to the characters in Tomomi's name, "朋"
The idea for the shop came from a conversation with her friend, Koike, during a drive. As they talked about how "it would be nice to have our own shops someday," they were serendipitously introduced to the current property, which they had already admired for its "cute exterior." Koike, a hairdresser, and Tomomi, a cook, shared the dream of opening a business, though in different fields. They solidified their resolve and decided to rent the former hair salon property together.

Over the next six months, they renovated the building, creating a multi-purpose space where Hair Salon ugen and Kissa futatsuki operate independently within the same house.

Inside, there are tables for two and four, as well as a counter. It's a great spot to relax alone, spend time as a couple, or have fun with a group of four! The interior is charmingly furnished, primarily with vintage items that the owner carefully selected over time.

The very popular "Daily Lunch Plate" for 1,200 yen
The most popular item is the signature "Daily Lunch Plate." This plate is packed with side dishes, focusing on locally grown vegetables, and comes with rice, miso soup, and tea. Limited to just 10 servings a day, it's not uncommon for it to sell out shortly after opening. On this day, the plate was a bountiful assortment: deep-fried tofu with a soy-based sauce, a hamburger steak with onion sauce, spice curry, spinach and watermelon radish with a mustard dressing, carrot and burdock root with homemade mayonnaise, and a spring roll with nagaimo yam and watermelon radish.
During cafe time, you can enjoy hand-dripped coffee made with house-roasted beans, along with desserts like cheesecake and gateau chocolat, making it the perfect space for those who want to unwind.

"Winter-Only White Bean Oshiruko (sweet soup)" 600 yen
The dinner menu is primarily à la carte, with course meals available upon request. All wines are natural wines, starting from 850 yen per glass. You can also enjoy craft beer from Sapporo's Streetlight Brewing and Hokkaido Classic.

It's a place where you can come alone without hesitation, and even just a cup of coffee at night is welcome. One of the charms of Kissa futatsuki is not only the happiness of eating and drinking delicious things but also the opportunity to meet and interact with wonderful local people.
A New Community Hub Where You'll Want to Drop By
True to this vision, Kissa futatsuki aims to be a place where anyone can stop by, cherishing its connections with the town's people. It's a "home-like place" where you can be yourself without any formality. This atmosphere has been naturally nurtured through daily life.
"I did a lot of events in 2025, so in 2026, I want to keep the shop open consistently and have more people enjoy this space," says Tomomi. She is also interested in obtaining a hunting license to use venison in her dishes. As her family runs a farm, she hopes to deepen communication with local producers and incorporate even more local ingredients.
With its local ingredients, handcrafted space, and personal connections, Kissa futatsuki stands quietly, as if gently embracing the daily life of the town of Urahoro.
