This sight, known in Japan as "Ana Momo" (hole squirrel), features a flying squirrel peeking out of a hole in a tree! You can't help but smile at the sight of it squeezing its face out of the tiny opening. Comments on social media poured in, such as "How unbelievably cute is that?" and "Does Hokkaido have a lot of trees like this?" leaving many feeling soothed by its adorable appearance.
Photographing the Animals Living Through Hokkaido's Four Seasons
The photographer is Yokochin, who works as an office employee in Hokkaido and spends his holidays behind the camera. He captures the lively figures of various Hokkaido animals, such as Ezo flying squirrels in winter, foxes in spring and summer, and chipmunks in autumn. In addition to wildlife, he has also photographed the powerful scenes of the "Tengu's Fire-Walking Festival," a traditional festival in the town of Furubira.
In the Hokkaido winter, you might just be able to meet an "Ana Momo" Ezo flying squirrel. If you do encounter one, please remember to keep your distance and watch over it quietly.
