A Secret Onsen in the Middle of a Field?! Discovering Niseko's Incredible Kogane Onsen in Rankoshi!
The story of Kogane Onsen began when a local farmer, Mr. Katsuro Hayashi, was digging on his land and happened to strike a hot spring. That explains why it's surrounded by fields! This discovery was made in 1994, and today, his son has taken over the operation.

Being a hot spring facility truly in the middle of farmland means there's nothing to obstruct your view, offering an incredible sense of openness. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Annupuri and Mount Yotei. Mr. Hayashi originally built the facility bit by bit with his own hands for the local community to enjoy, and this handmade feel gives it a heartwarming charm.

The reason it became popular far beyond the local neighborhood is, without a doubt, the exceptional quality of its water. When you actually step into the bath, you'll notice tiny bubbles clinging to your skin. This is proof that it's a high-quality bicarbonate spring, rich in carbon dioxide.
Bicarbonate springs are said to have a cleansing effect. They can exfoliate dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth, and even have moisturizing properties! They also have a high heat-retention effect, so even though the water itself is not overly hot at 40.8°C, your body stays warm and toasty long after you get out. And of course, the water is 100% free-flowing directly from the source.
