New Sapporo Hotel: Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage Grand Opening on Former King Xmhu Site! An On-Site Report of This Hot New Hotel, a 5-Minute Walk from Susukino
Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage Opens on the Former King Xmhu Site
King Xmhu before closing in 2023
"King Xmhu" opened as a disco during the bubble economy in 1991. Known for its unique exterior and interior reminiscent of ancient Mexican ruins, it was a beloved landmark in Susukino. Due to the building's aging and redevelopment, it was closed and demolished in 2023, and construction of a new hotel has been underway. Many locals were surely curious to see what would become of the King Xmhu site.
Exterior of Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage
The result is the newly opened "Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage." It's a 14-story building with a total of 125 rooms. This is a welcome addition, especially during peak times like major concerts at the Sapporo Dome or the Snow Festival season, when hotels are often in short supply.
An eye that seems to watch over those entering the hotel!
As you approach the entrance, a large, glaring eye on the left catches your attention. This is a repurposed object that once adorned the outer wall of King Xmhu.
This fun feature creates a sense of the extraordinary and otherworldly from the moment you enter, and it's likely to become a popular photo spot. For those who knew King Xmhu, it evokes nostalgia, while for first-time visitors, it offers a fresh surprise.
A reception area that feels like King Xmhu has been reborn
The reception (front desk) area and common spaces also have a unique atmosphere. Objects that once decorated King Xmhu's bar counter and VIP rooms are utilized here.
An object resembling a stone slab excavated from ancient ruins
In the first-floor elevator hall, there's a slightly mysterious piece of art that looks like a stone slab excavated from ruins. Try waving your hand over it to see what happens.
All Rooms with Kitchen & Washer! An Apartment Hotel for a "Live-Like-a-Local" Stay
Two semi-double beds, perfect for sleeping with children
In contrast to the common areas that retain King Xmhu's mysterious worldview, the guest rooms have a natural atmosphere. This is a 55-square-meter twin room. It has a maximum capacity of four people and is equipped with two semi-double beds.
Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage features many spacious rooms, with 110 of its 125 rooms being over 40 square meters and equipped with two beds. This makes it a great option for groups and families to stay together.
A sofa area for chatting while watching TV
In addition to the spacious bed area, there is a dining table for four and a sofa set, promising a comfortable time spent in the room.
A large closet with doors
The large closet is another key feature. It's spacious enough to be a lifesaver even in seasons when bulky winter items like thick outerwear and snow boots take up a lot of space.
A kitchen equipped with a two-door refrigerator, microwave, and IH stove
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, cutlery, glasses, dishes, a large refrigerator, an electric kettle, an IH stove, and a microwave. You could buy Hokkaido specialties like melon, corn, or crab and enjoy them right in your room.
Sandwiches from "Sandria," about a 10-minute walk from the hotel
As a local, I'd recommend taking advantage of the location, which is within walking distance of beloved 24-hour Sapporo institutions like "Nigirimeshi" and "Sandria," to go out for a morning walk and buy breakfast.
A spacious bathroom with a separate washing area and bathtub
The bathroom is a separate type, making it easy for parents and children to bathe together. Both the bathtub and the washing area are wide and spacious.
The peace of mind of being able to do laundry anytime with the in-room washing machine!
There is also a washing machine in the washroom area. All rooms in the hotel are equipped with a kitchen and a washing machine, allowing you to stay as if you were living there.
Accommodates up to 8 Guests! Suites Perfect for 3-Generation or Group Trips
The living, dining, and kitchen area of the suite. The wall featuring Sapporo soft stone is impressive.
While the twin rooms are spacious, the even larger "Suites" are over 100 square meters. With a maximum capacity of 8 people, they are perfect for three-generation family trips or group travel.
A bedroom with two semi-double beds
The bedroom is also spacious, with plenty of room to open up large suitcases. In a luxurious touch, in addition to the main bathroom and toilet, the master bedroom has its own dedicated shower booth, toilet, and sink.
A dining table where everyone can eat together
The living space is filled with natural light. There's a large dining table, allowing everyone to gather and share a meal. From the 14th-floor window, we had a clear view all the way to the Mt. Moiwa area.
A kitchen that makes you want to buy Sapporo ingredients and cook
The island-style kitchen connected to the living and dining area is not a mini-size but a full-size one. It's convenient for cooking your own meals or placing ingredients you've bought.
A living room with white birch trees, reminiscent of a Hokkaido forest
There are a total of three 108-square-meter suites on the top floor, each with a different interior design. The living spaces incorporate elements like Sapporo soft stone or white birch tree motifs, giving a subtle sense of Hokkaido.
A washroom space where two people can do their makeup or brush their teeth at the same time
With two sinks side-by-side, you won't have to fight over the mirror while getting ready in the morning. The presence of a magnifying mirror is also a nice touch.
Entrance of Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage
Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage is impressive for being a new and functional apartment hotel while preserving the building and culture of King Xmhu as a heritage. I felt that this is a hotel that inherits and reconstructs the memory and history of this land. It is especially recommended for long-term stays and group travel.
