You can drink Noboribetsu Karurusu Onsen! Enjoy 100% natural hot spring water in an open-air bath
When talking about hot springs in Noboribetsu City, many people may think of Noboribetsu Onsen, which is home to Jigokudani. In fact, there is another hot spring in Noboribetsu called Karurusu Onsen. Why not relax and unwind at Mori no Yu Sanseikan, which we will introduce to you today?
Noboribetsu Karurusu Onsen is located about 20 minutes by car from JR Noboribetsu Station, a short distance from Noboribetsu Onsen Town. It is known as a famous hot spring among hot spring fans, and has been selected as one of the "100 Famous Hot Springs," as well as being the first "National Health Resort Hot Spring" in Hokkaido. This time, we visited Mori no Yu Sanseikan (hereinafter Sanseikan).
The bath area has large windows, so you can view the well-maintained garden without having to go to the outdoor open-air bath. When we visited, it was the season for autumn leaves, and the colored maple leaves were reflected on the surface of the water in the indoor bath, which was very beautiful.
Now, when you look at the photo of the next bathhouse (men's bath), is there anything else that catches your eye besides the large windows?
In the corner of the bath, there is a rare space where a ladle is placed, something you don't often see in hot spring facilities.
You can actually drink the hot spring water here... that is, you can "drink the spring water." Karurusu Onsen doesn't have the typical smell of hot springs, and it doesn't have a strong taste, so even those who are drinking hot spring water for the first time should have no hesitation.
It is said to regulate the intestines, so it's definitely something you should try. Also, the area that surrounds it like a moat is a place where you can pour hot water over yourself before entering the hot spring.
Karurusu Onsen is a colorless, transparent, simple spring. The water is smooth and anyone can soak in it for a long time without any trouble. The indoor bath at Sanseikan is divided into low and high temperature baths, so it might be fun to try them both. Of course, the time spent in the open-air bath while looking out at the beautiful garden is something special.
As mentioned at the beginning, Noboribetsu Karurusu Onsen is designated as a national hot spring resort. If you visit Sanseikan, you'll want to stay overnight and enjoy the hot springs many times. The young proprietress is also a hot spring beauty expert, so you might be able to hear some useful advice!
