■Poster Contest
The "Northern Territories Day" Poster Contest will be held to raise interest in the Northern Territories issue among contest entrants and others, and to publicize "Northern Territories Day" on February 7 by widely displaying the winning entries, and to arouse and raise public opinion.
Application period: May 27 (Mon.) - October 4 (Fri.), 2011 *Must be postmarked on the day of application.
General category
Entry qualifications: High school students and above (regardless of professional or amateur status)
Theme: Poster design to promote awareness of "Northern Territories Day" and to further increase momentum for the return of the Northern Territories
Size: A3 size (portrait)
Drawing method, etc.: Handwritten (any drawing materials) or digitally printed
Other: The work must clearly indicate that February 7 is Northern Territories Day by including a phrase or catch copy such as "February 7 is Northern Territories Day.
Children's Division
Eligibility: Elementary school students (5th and 6th grades) and junior high school students in Hokkaido
Theme: Drawings that conjure up images when they hear the word "Northern Territories
Size of work: 8-sheet size (271 mm (H) x 391 mm (W)) drawing paper (horizontally)
Drawing method: Handwritten (any materials are acceptable)
Other: The work must clearly indicate that February 7 is Northern Territories Day by including a phrase or catch copy such as "February 7 is Northern Territories Day.
*Coloring pictures will be accepted for children in the 4th grade of elementary school and younger (not subject to judging).

■Northern Territories Junior High School Student Essay Contest
The "Northern Territories Essay Contest for Junior High School Students" will be held in order to deepen the interest and understanding of the next generation of junior high school students in Hokkaido regarding the Northern Territories, Japan's unique territory, and to pass on the movement demanding its return to the next generation and to arouse and raise public opinion by publishing the winning essays.
Eligibility: Junior high school students in Hokkaido
Topic: Matters related to the Northern Territories
Entries must be original and unpublished works.
