Overview
This is a ritual in which Sarutahiko, dressed in vermilion clothing and a Tengu mask, leads a procession through the town to purify the deity. The sounds of loud drums and lively flutes reverberate throughout the area, and at night the Tengu performs a firewalk, lighting a pillar of fire that reaches a height of about 3 meters. The Sarutahiko walks across the fire, kicking away sparks as he does so, eliciting loud cheers from the audience. This is followed by a lion dance and a mikoshi (portable shrine) also walking across the fire, bringing the festival to a climax. This is a famous festival that represents Furubira Town.
