The "Hyobaku Matsuri," an art of ice created amidst the cold, is set in Sounkyo Onsen, Kamikawa Town, Hokkaido. This festival, celebrating its 51st edition, transforms the winter night into a fantastical space adorned with ice sculptures and lights. Approximately 20 large and small ice sculptures line up, and there are plenty of highlights such as an observation deck approximately 13m high, an ice tunnel, an ice dome, Hyobaku Shrine, and a tube slide.
At night, the ice sculptures are lit up in 7 colors, and the light objects floating in the extremely cold night sky invite visitors into a world of fantasy. Furthermore, fireworks launched every night vibrantly color the night sky, creating a powerful spectacle in the clear winter air.
