The 42nd Shibare Festival will be held. Held since 1982 in Rikubetsu, the coldest town in Japan, this festival is the coldest in Japan, and features a variety of attractions and shops that take advantage of Rikubetsu's coldest weather. The festival will also feature the ever-popular "Human Cold Endurance Test," where participants spend the night inside a balloon mansion (ice igloo).
There will also be many food stalls set up at the Shibare Festival site. You can enjoy a variety of food at the stalls, including dishes made with Ezo deer raised in the great outdoors of Rikubetsu, stylish cafe menus, and festival staples like yakitori and curry. On the 7th, Shibare fireworks will brightly light up the winter night sky.
