Smelt fishing has become a winter tradition at Lake Poroto. Some enthusiasts are said to be able to catch 100 fish in an hour. The smelt you catch can be deep-fried like a tempura or cooked into tsukudani (simmered fish cakes).

1-day ticket: Junior high school students and above 800 yen / Children 400 yen
Season ticket: Junior high school students and above 5,000 yen / Children 2,500 yen
Rental equipment: Ice drilling tools (free) and shovels only. Drills are not available for rental.

・Fishing rod rental set (reel and tackle included) 1,200 yen
・Smelt fishing chair: 300 yen each
・Tents allowed / Tent rental (Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays only) 1,500 yen
