6th Hokkaido Biodiversity Conservation: Specified Invasive Alien Species Uchida-zarigani Survey and Control Activity

Date and Time

2026/7/4

9:30-14:30

・Meeting time: 9:30 at Sapporo Fureai no Mori, Plaza

The Uchida-zarigani (Signal Crayfish) is a specified invasive alien species not originally native to Hokkaido, and in recent years, its population has been rapidly increasing in various parts of Hokkaido. They have a strong reproductive capacity, compete with the native Nihon-zarigani (Japanese crayfish), and pose a risk of driving them out, which has a significant impact on the ecosystem.

Specified invasive alien species are alien species of foreign origin designated by the Invasive Alien Species Act as those that cause or may cause damage to ecosystems, human life and body, and the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries industries. Based on this situation, with the aim of promoting activities related to the conservation of Hokkaido's biodiversity, we will continuously carry out survey and control activities targeting the Arike region of Kiyota-ku, while gaining the understanding and cooperation of many people.
