The fishing industry in Sarufutsu Village once experienced a period of hardship due to resource depletion. However, fishermen and the village worked together to shift to a resource management style fishery by creating fishing grounds and conducting hatchery, stocking, and rearing projects, and the rich Okhotsk fishery was restored once again.
The Isari Monument was erected in memory of the hard work and achievements of the many predecessors who pioneered the Sarufutsu Sea.
