Indigirka ship shipwreck victims memorial monument
This memorial monument, Shōwa 14 December, in the midst of the raging blizzard off the coast of Hama Onishibetsu, at the occasion when the former Soviet Union's cargo-passenger ship "Indigirka" ran aground and capsized, mourning the precious lives of more than 700 people that were lost, was erected in Shōwa 46.
Knowing the occurrence of a great disaster remaining on the world's maritime disaster history, and the act that villagers all together rescued approximately 400 people, and the memorial monument that manifested the heart praying, 'Oh, souls of the people who became victims, be at peace,' as a testament of human love that crossed national borders, is speaking to the hearts of visiting people about what is important even today.
