Herring fishing was prosperous and the area was designated as "Kayabe place" in the fishing trade area in the Edo period. The "Herring Memorial Pagoda in Kayabe" in the Hon Kayabe area along National Route 5 was built in those days and is designated as a tangible cultural property of the province.
