Overview
The Herring Culture Museum Yamashime Banya is in Shakotan Town, a town that prospered as one of the leading herring fishing grounds from the Meiji to Showa periods.
It is a facility for transmitting herring culture, preserving and utilizing the Yamashime Fukui residence, which flourished as a herring watch-house (banya).
