SPOT
Kagaminuma Swamp
Kagaminuma Swamp is located in the middle of the northeast slope of Niseko Annupuri (570 meters above sea level) in a high-altitude marshland. This marsh is maintained mainly by melting snow, and on the opposite bank of the swamp is a near-pristine forest of giant Quercus serrata, Japanese maples, and Japanese white ash trees. The name Kagami-numa comes from the mirror-like reflection of the surrounding landscape on the surface of the water on windless days.
There are two main routes to Kagaminuma. One is the HANAZONO GOLF route, which begins near the HANAZONO Golf Course in Aza Hanazono 1, Kutchan-cho. The other is the "Route 58 Route," which is accessed along Route 58 (Kutchan-cho Aza Hanazono to Goshiki Onsen). Each route has its own characteristics, so please choose the route you prefer!
The swamp has floating islands that constantly move according to the winds of the day. Please try to find them.
The "HANAZONO GOLF Route" begins at a wooden bridge near the golf course, where you cross three bridges and walk through a forest to a pleasant open-air space. There is a wooden path around Kagami-numa Swamp, which is easy to walk along, and benches are available to take a break.
For the "Route 58 Route," drive a few minutes from the winter road closure Hanazono Gate on Highway 58 (Kutchan Niseko Route), and you will find the entrance to Kagami-numa on your left. After about a 35-minute walk from the entrance, you will arrive at Kagami-numa. The course is a mountain path with ups and downs and creek crossings.
