The approach to Mt. Ashibetsu (1726.5 m) has two patterns of a new way and an old way. The new way is a course of 4 hours and 20 minutes (descent: 3 hours) that goes over two peaks and aims to go up and up by climbing a ridge. The old trail is a 5-hour, 20-minute walk (4 hours and 10 minutes downhill) along a varied stream to the north ridge with a great view. Both are challenging trekking courses for intermediate and advanced hikers. Both trailheads are located in the Yamabe Taiyo no Sato Nature Park.
