Active volcano "Esan" - Esan Azalea Park
Overview
An active volcano of 618m height, located in the Esan region of the eastern end of Kameda Peninsula. It is designated as a Prefectural Nature Park, and by car, up to the crater vicinity, it is possible to climb. The vegetation near the mountain peak is scarce, but at the mountain foot, about 600,000 azaleas are famous. Azaleas, from late May to early June, spanning from inside the park to the mountainside, a burning-like carpet of flowers spreads all over. Walking paths are also maintained, and slowly strolling among the flowers is also possible. Besides azaleas, more than 60 species of alpine plants grow in clusters.
