Overview

The Yunokawa Onsen Fireworks Festival takes place after the Obon festival (August Bon) when autumn breezes are in the air, and is a popular Hakodate summer festival. A "hot water offering ceremony" is held at Yukura Shrine, where hot water taken from the spring is dedicated to the shrine. The fireworks are launched from downstream of the Matsukura River, and together with the fishing lights of squid fishing boats floating off the coast of the Tsugaru Strait, they light up the late summer night sky.
