Shosanbetsu Observatory
Shosanbetsu Observatory, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2028, is a facility located in Misakidai Park. It is equipped with a 65cm fork-type reflecting telescope, the largest in northern Hokkaido, allowing visitors to see the stars shining in the night sky up close. The "My Stars System" allows visitors to give their favorite names to stars that are only available in the village, making it a popular place to register stars to commemorate travel, marriage, or the birth of a child. The Meisters System was declared in April 1995, and registration began in July of the same year. The shape of the building is modeled after the lunar module used in the U.S. Apollo program, and the diagonal pillars extending from the dome represent east, west, south, north, and south. The museum is designed to be used as a facility that brings together the dreams of the space age and the dreams of village development.
In addition, a star festival will be held at Shosanbetsu Observatory in conjunction with the Cape Festival. In recent years, a PET bottle rocket making class for children has been held, and a "flight recording session" to launch the completed rocket, planetarium screenings, astronomical observations, and astronomy lectures will be held.
