Shosanbetsu Observatory

The Shosanbetsu Astronomical Observatory, which marked its 30th anniversary of opening in the first year of Reiwa, is a facility located within Misakidai Park. A 65cm fork-mount reflecting astronomical telescope, which boasts the foremost size in Northern Hokkaido, is installed, and you can see stars shining in the night sky up close. Also, it is carrying out the "MY STARS SYSTEM" where you give a favorite name to a star valid only in this village and register it, and it has become popular among people who register for commemorations such as travel, marriage, and childbirth. The MY STARS SYSTEM scheme was declared in April, Heisei 7, and registration acceptance began from July of the same year. The shape of the building takes as its model the lunar lander used in America's Apollo program, and the pillars extending diagonally from the dome represent the east, west, south, and north. It was created with the wish that as many people as possible would casually enjoy the starry sky, and we think we would like you to use it as a facility that connects the dream of the space age and the dream of village development.

Also, in conjunction with the holding of the Cape Festival, a Star Festival will be held at the Shosanbetsu Astronomical Observatory. In recent years, plastic bottle rocket making classes targeting children are held, and a "Flight Record Meeting" where completed rockets are launched, planetarium screenings, astronomical observation, and astronomy lectures, etc., are held.
