Kompira Shrine

Kompira Shrine is located in Misakidai Park and features a large red torii gate standing majestically in the sea. There are many photo spots in Hatsuyamabetsu Village, and this is one of the most recommended. The sunset over the torii gate standing in the sea is a perfect shutterbug point. In the past, the rough seas around this area were plagued by many accidents at sea. One day, a fisherman living nearby found a bill of Kompira-sama washed ashore on the cape and returned it to the sea, thinking it would be a waste if it remained there. However, the next day, the bill was found again in the same place, and after returning it and returning it again, the bill kept coming back, so the fisherman decided to enshrine the bill on a nearby rocky beach. As a result, according to legend, marine accidents in the vicinity of this area almost completely disappeared. The hall was renovated and built by volunteers twice in the Taisho and Showa eras, and the Otorii gate was built in 1981. The shrine was designated as a tangible cultural property of the village in 2008, and is still cherished under the nickname "Kompira-san.
