A village shining with sunsets over the Sea of Japan and star-filled skies.

Population:1,000
Shosanbetsu Village was established in Meiji 33 (1900). It is a small village, primarily focused on agriculture and fishing, located in the central part of the Rumoi Subprefecture, bordered by Haboro Town to the south and Enbetsu Town to the north.
While it may not have the conveniences of a city, you can fully enjoy the unique nature of Shosanbetsu Village, including the sunset over the Sea of Japan, a sky full of stars, and seafood caught right offshore.
The name of the village is said to be a phonetic alteration of the Ainu word "Soesanbetsu," meaning "the river where a waterfall flows out." Other interpretations of the place name include "Shushusanbetsu" from the Sarashina interpretation, meaning "the river near the willow field."
