SPOT
Komke Wild Flower Garden
A paradise for wild birds with about 200 species in flight
Lake Komke is located about 20 km from downtown Monbetsu toward the town of Yubetsu, facing the Sea of Okhotsk. Komke means "curved" in Ainu language, and the lake is long and narrow with a complicated shape. It is a paradise for wild birds, with about 200 species such as whooper swans, white-tailed eagles, and great blue herons flying here.
It is also a scenic spot with a panoramic view of the ocean, lake, and mountains. In autumn, coral reefs spread out in bright red like a carpet.
