Bekanbeushi (Bekanbeushi) Wetland
Even if you know Kushiro Wetland and Kiritappu Wetland, you might not have heard much about Bekanbeushi (Bekanbeushi) Wetland. That's understandable, as it is a wetland that was named Bekanbeushi Wetland after being selected as one of the Akkeshi Ten Scenic Views, and in Heisei 5 (1993), "Lake Akkeshi・Bekanbeushi Wetland" was recognized as a registered wetland under the Ramsar Convention, rapidly coming to attract attention.
In wetlands, there are low moors where reeds and sedges spread, raised bogs where sphagnum mosses thrive and bog rosemary and cranberries bloom, and intermediate wetlands, but Bekanbeushi Wetland is a typical example of a low moor. Also, a new raised bog has been confirmed in the middle basin of the Bekanbeushi River, and it is greatly attracting attention.
In Bekanbeushi Wetland, Oboro River, Obetsu River, Bekanbeushi River, Chiraikaribetsu River, etc., flow like blood vessels, and red-crowned cranes also nest there, so it is highly evaluated academically as well.
Also, nearby there is a Waterfowl Observation Center, and you can see the seasonal birds flying to Lake Akkeshi and the wetland, and the raising of young by red-crowned cranes, in real-time on a screen.
