Muroran City Museum of Folklore

The museum exhibits the history and culture of Muroran, which has prospered as a good natural port in Hokkaido since ancient times, from various perspectives. It is an educational facility equivalent to a museum located adjacent to the nationally designated historical site "Mororan Camp Site of the Southern Domain of Eastern Ezo" and houses and exhibits approximately 22,000 items, including buried cultural properties. The exhibits include earthenware from the Jomon period, uniforms and official uniforms of the Tonden soldiers that tell the history of pioneering, as well as earth-shaped coal stoves called "octopus" that shared the development of industry, and quaint fishing boxes that show the bustling port town, all of which have seen the history of Muroran City.
