Shiratori Bridge
Symbol of Muroran The largest suspension bridge in East Japan
Completed in 1998, about 40 years after its conception, it is the largest suspension bridge in East Japan. With a total length of 1,380 m, it is a graceful white bridge that resembles a swan spreading its wings. The attraction of the bridge is its dynamic scenery during the daytime and illumination/illumination at night. There are 228 lights on the main cable and 44 on the main tower, which are illuminated by wind power generation from sunset to midnight. Construction materials and models can be seen at the Shiratori Bridge Memorial Museum, which is also a roadside station. In 2008, the bridge was selected as one of Japan's Nightscape Heritage and Light-up Heritage.
