Cape Ochishi
Overview
Cape Ochishi is a cape jutting out into the Pacific Ocean about 21 km southwest of Nemuro City. A nature trail leads visitors to a wide expanse of azaleas, which are designated as a national natural monument because they are the southern limit of their natural habitat. The best time to see the azaleas is in early June.
If you are lucky, you may be able to see the Ochiishi Lighthouse, which is about 35 kilometers away from the light, the dynamic rough waves of the Pacific Ocean crashing against the cliffs below, and seals and sea otters playing in the sun on the reefs.
