Kamifurano Town is a beautiful town of magnificent mountain ranges and rolling rural landscapes, located in the central part of Hokkaido, on the west side of the Tokachi-dake Mountain Range of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group. In the west, gentle plains and idyllic fields spread out, while the east features a grand mountainous region centered around the active volcano, Mount Tokachi. Access from surrounding areas is excellent, and the dynamic, picturesque scenery, characteristic of Hokkaido, captivates many people.

The climate is continental, with very distinct seasonal changes; summers are refreshing, and winters are enveloped in a beautiful world of silver. The symbolic Mount Tokachi is an active volcano, and based on lessons learned from past eruption disasters, advanced disaster prevention measures are now being implemented. The wisdom of our ancestors, who faced and coexisted with the harsh nature, and the energy of the land are carefully passed down as the foundation for a safe and prosperous life.

Since its settlement in the 30th year of the Meiji era (1897), the town has developed primarily around agriculture and is also the birthplace of lavender cultivation in Japan, having started it as a commercial crop for the first time in the 23rd year of the Showa era (1948). Utilizing abundant resources and history, such as the volcanic blessings of Tokachidake Onsen and Fukiage Onsen, the town is promoting the "Tokachidake Geopark Initiative" to connect the region's charm to the future. It is a town of agriculture and tourism, full of charm, where the romance of the earth and the scent of purple lavender harmonize.
