Population:118,100
The city of Ebetsu is located in the Do-o (central) region of Hokkaido, adjacent to the major city of Sapporo, with a population of approximately 110,000. It boasts excellent transportation access, being just over 15 minutes by JR rapid train from Sapporo Station and about 40 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport. It continues to develop as a convenient city for living, where urban functions and abundant nature are beautifully harmonized.
The climate is relatively mild with beautiful seasonal changes, and the city's symbol, the "Nopporo Forest Park," a prefectural natural park, spreads out within it. This park, with its vast area of 2,053 hectares, is an extremely rare example of a flatland primeval forest near a major city, even from a global perspective. It has about 40 kilometers of walking trails and ponds, serving as a place of relaxation where citizens can enjoy the rich nature of each season.
The city also has another face as a "research and academic city," with four universities and large-scale public and private research facilities concentrated within it. In terms of industry, it has a history of supporting the modernization of the Meiji era and is currently famous as Hokkaido's only producer of "renga" (bricks). Agriculture is also very prosperous, and taking advantage of its proximity to a large consumption area, a wide variety of vegetables are cultivated. It is also a major production area for "Haruyutaka," a premium wheat variety that enjoys high popularity nationwide.
