Located in the Okhotsk region of northeastern Hokkaido, Takinoue is a nature-rich town with a population of about 2,200. Surrounded by mountains, it boasts beautiful scenery with the clear Shukotsu River flowing through its center. The town is accessible by car in about 40 minutes from the neighboring city of Monbetsu and about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Asahikawa.
Characterized by a continental climate with significant temperature variations, the town offers vibrant seasonal changes. It captivates visitors year-round with the "Shibazakura Takinoue Park," where pink moss phlox blankets 100,000 square meters of hills in spring, deep green in summer, autumn foliage in the "Kinsenkyo Gorge," and serene snowy landscapes in winter. The clear air and lush forests enrich the town's life.
The main industries are dairy farming and forestry. Historically, the town accounted for 70% of the world's mint market and still boasts the highest production of Japanese mint in the country. The highlight of tourism is the grand panorama of shibazakura (moss phlox) that blooms from May. Strolling through the "Kinsenkyo Gorge" within the town and authentic stream fishing in the Shukotsu River are also popular activities. It is a town where you can encounter refreshing scents and the blessings of nature.
