Shinhidaka Town is a town located in the center of the Hidaka Subprefecture, established in 2006 through the merger of the former towns of Shizunai and Mitsuishi. It is blessed with abundant nature, with views of the magnificent Mount Petegari of the Hidaka Mountain Range to the east and the vast Pacific Ocean stretching to the south. The town is characterized by a climate that is exceptionally mild for Hokkaido. Summers are cool, with an average monthly temperature of about twenty-two degrees Celsius, while winters are gentle, with temperatures around minus five degrees Celsius and little snowfall, creating a very comfortable and pleasant environment throughout the year.

Its key industry is the production of light-breed horses, priding itself on its tradition as the 'hometown of racehorses.' It has produced numerous legendary horses, including Oguri Cap and Lord Kanaloa. In agriculture, the town offers a rich variety of specialty products known for their high quality and safety, including the premium brand 'Mitsuishi Beef,' 'Taiyo no Hitomi' cherry tomatoes, beautiful flowers such as delphiniums, and 'Manbaken' rice cultivated with composted horse manure. The fishing industry benefits from the rich bounty of the Pacific Ocean, including the top-quality 'Hidaka Kombu' (kelp), as well as salmon and octopus. The town also focuses on aquaculture and the conservation of seaweed beds. It is a charming town, full of northern romance, where the exquisite blessings of the mountains, sea, and land exist in harmony.
