Nijukken Road Cherry Blossom Line

Admire the blooming cherry blossoms and enjoy the arrival of spring. Japan's largest cherry blossom avenue, the "Twenty-Width Road Cherry Blossom Avenue." It took three years, starting in 1916, to transplant Siberian wild cherry trees from the nearby mountains. At the time, the road was exactly twenty ken (about 36 meters) wide on both sides, so it came to be called the "Twenty-Width Road."

Over 2,000 cherry trees bloom along the Nijukken Road, which stretches for 7 kilometers in a straight line. It is said that the cherry trees were originally planted here as a road for the imperial family to visit the Imperial Ranch of the Imperial Household Ministry, which was once located here.

Currently, it has been selected as one of the "100 Best Roads in Japan," "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots," and "Hokkaido Heritage," and is loved by many people as one of Japan's leading cherry blossom spots. Every year in early May, cherry blossom viewers from all over the country flock here to catch a glimpse of Japan's most magnificent rows of cherry trees in full bloom.
