Yushun Sakura Road (Urakawa Town): The Illuminated Cherry Blossom Tunnel is a Highlight

For about 3 kilometers from the entrance of Yushun no Sato Park, over 1,000 Ezo wild cherry trees line both sides of the road. The resulting tunnel of blooming cherry blossoms delights visitors. In early May, the approximately 8-kilometer road from JR Noboribetsu Station towards Noboribetsu Onsen becomes covered by a tunnel of flowers. Noboribetsu City Museum of Local History / Center for Cultural Heritage (Noboribetsu City): See Rare, Light Green Cherry Blossoms

At the Noboribetsu City Museum of Local History, 46 cherry trees of six different varieties bloom over the course of about a month. Among them, the rare Gyoiko cherry trees, with their light green petals, are particularly popular. The museum's exterior is modeled after Shiroishi Castle, where the Katakura clan of the Sendai domain resided, and combined with the surrounding cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, it offers beautiful scenery in every season.

Silo Observatory (Toyako Town): Enjoy Cherry Blossoms with Magnificent Views of Lake Toya and Mountains

The Silo Observatory is located on the western shore of Lake Toya, at the edge of the land surrounding the lake. It's a tourist spot offering a panoramic view of Lake Toya, Nakajima Island, Mt. Usu, and Mt. Showa-Shinzan. The contrast between the vast panorama of the sparkling blue Lake Toya and its islands, and the cherry and plum blossoms, is a picturesque scene, like a painting.

Shiribetsu River Ranran Park is located on a riverbank, where vast green spaces and flowerbeds offer beautiful scenery throughout the seasons. Usu Zenkoji Temple (Date City): A Powerful Cherry Tree That Grew by Splitting a Giant Rock

The grounds of Usu Zenkoji Temple are home to several ancient cherry trees over 200 years old, the most famous of which is the Ishiwarizakura (stone-splitting cherry tree), which grew while splitting a giant rock. Many large weeping cherry trees and double-flowered cherry trees have also been planted. In addition to cherry blossoms, various other trees and flowers that color the seasons, such as hydrangeas and ginkgo trees, make it known as a "famous flower spot in Date City."

Shoya Sakura Park & Meoto-zakura (Erimo Town): A Rare Cherry Tree Where Two Trunks Support Each Other Like a Married Couple

Shoya Sakura Park is widely known as a popular cherry blossom spot with views of Shoya Fishing Port and the cherry trees together. Inside the park is an Ezo wild cherry tree estimated to be 300 years old. It is said that what were once two separate cherry trees grew to support each other, eventually becoming one large tree. For this reason, it is called "Meoto-zakura" (Couple Cherry Tree) and produces beautiful flowers every year.

Site of the Mororan Jinya, a Former Nanbu Clan Garrison in East Ezo (Muroran City): Cherry Blossoms at a Historic Garrison Site Surrounded by Greenery

This is the only nationally designated historic site in the city and one of the most representative garrison sites from the late early modern period in Hokkaido. This land, where samurai of the Nanbu clan conducted coastal patrols at the eastern end of Uchiura Bay during the late Edo period, was designated a historic site in 1934 and has been preserved ever since. Today, it is enveloped in lush greenery and has become a famous spot for cherry blossoms.
