Obihiro is a city with a population of about 170,000, located in the central part of the vast Tokachi Plain, surrounded by the Daisetsuzan mountain range to the north and the Hidaka mountain range to the west. It has an area of 619.34 km², with the urban area concentrated in the north and a large-scale farming region extending to the south. It is a town blessed with clear blue skies and a vast, endless landscape.
The climate is cool with low precipitation, and it boasts one of the highest numbers of sunny days per year in Japan. The temperature difference is large, with summer highs exceeding 30°C and winter lows around -20°C, resulting in a region with four distinct seasons.
Obihiro is the central city of the Tokachi region, with agriculture as its key industry. The agricultural sector is characterized by a high number of full-time farmers, large-scale operations using heavy machinery, and high productivity. Tertiary industries such as commerce and services are also thriving, making it a commercial hub for eastern Hokkaido.
