Shimizu Town is the gateway to Eastern Hokkaido, located in the western part of the Tokachi region in southeastern Hokkaido, on the eastern side of the Nissho Pass, which connects Central and Eastern Hokkaido.
The town thrives on agriculture, including dry-field farming of wheat, beans, and sugar beets, as well as dairy and livestock farming, all nurtured by its fertile soil and bountiful land. In particular, its dairy farming is one of the most prominent in Hokkaido, with approximately 24,000 dairy cows being raised and raw milk production exceeding 110,000 tons, making it a leading dairy region.
Along National Route 274 on the way to Nissho Pass is Shimizu Park, a tourist spot that can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons with cherry blossoms in spring, boating in summer, autumn foliage, and winter snowscapes. In addition to Shimizu Park, the town also has attractive scenic spots known as the "Shimizu Four Views Plus One," which include the "Shimizu Maruyama Observatory," "Biman Panorama Park," "Nissho Pass Observatory," and "Tokachi Millennium Forest."
