Tokachi River town where fertile earth and ocean bounty intersect

Population:2,900
Toyokoro Town, with a population of about 3,000, is located at the southeastern tip of Hokkaido's Tokachi region. Its name derives from the Ainu word "Toekoro," meaning "a place where large butterburs grew," and the town boasts a history of over 140 years since its founding in 1880. The majestic Tokachi River flows along its eastern edge, and the landscape features plains believed to have formed from an uplifted seabed, alongside gentle rolling hills.
The climate reflects the unique characteristics of the Tokachi region, with average temperatures around 20°C in summer and -10°C in winter. It is characterized by relatively low snowfall and a high number of sunny days from autumn through spring. Meanwhile, the southern coastal area experiences summer sea fog, offering contrasting natural expressions between the inland and the coast.
Blessed with both land and sea, Toyokoro is a region where agriculture and fishing have taken root as core industries. In the vast agricultural areas, potatoes and wheat grow vigorously under the sun, while fresh seafood, including autumn salmon, is abundantly caught along the Pacific coast. Come and enjoy the breath of great nature and delicious local products in this town where Tokachi's fertile soil and rich ocean bounty intersect.
