Sapporo City

Citizens of Sapporo have visited the National Takino Suzuran Hillside Park at least once. Every year around Christmas, the hillside park opens as "Takino Snow World" for the winter season. The large grounds are tinted in silver and filled with activities unique to winter! Let's play to our heart's content.

Takino Snow World is a vast park with a variety of activity areas scattered throughout the grounds. We recommend that you first decide what you want to do and park your car in a parking lot near that area. Check the official website in advance.
The first one I would like to introduce is the Family Slope. It is 250m long and features a gentle slope with an average slope of 7 degrees, making it perfect for ski and snowboard beginners and small children for practice!
The lifts are also safe as they are two-seater and slow speed. There are also rental sets of ski boards and other equipment available for a fee.
We also recommend the "Sledding Slope". The feature of this slope is that it is one of the largest in Japan, and you can enjoy tube sledding!
It is a long course that slides down a whopping 200 meters at a stretch. Children and adults alike will be enthralled by this course. Tube sleds are available free of charge, so it will be fun to compete with other family members on their own sleds.
Snowshoeing is another free activity. There are two types of snowshoeing: one is to rent a set of tools at the Forest Exchange Center and explore the "Takino Forest Zone," and the other is to rent them at the Country House and walk along the "Snowshoe Course. It is a wonderful experience to enjoy nature while walking on fluffy snow that you cannot walk on with shoes.
On the other hand, "walking ski" may be a little harder activity than strolling. But don't worry. There are different courses for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, and you can choose between long and short distances for each course. Why not start with the 1km beginner course?

For small children who are not yet ready for tube sleds, we recommend the "Little Sled Corner" next to the sledding slope. Let them learn the fun of playing in the snow with plastic sleds that can be rented for free.

We hope you have found that Takino Snow World has many activities for families and beginners to enjoy. Even tourists from outside of Hokkaido who are not accustomed to snow can easily try these activities. Of course, there are many more activities that we have not covered here.

Please check out the official website for more information, and forget about the cold and immerse yourself in a variety of fun activities.
