Takino Suzuran Hillside National Government Park is a place that every Sapporo resident has visited at least once. Every year, as Christmas approaches, the park opens for the winter as Takino Snow World. In the vast, silver-white grounds, there are plenty of activities that can only be enjoyed in winter! Have fun to your heart's content. Takino Snow World is a very large park with many different activity areas scattered throughout. We recommend that you first decide what you want to do and then park your car in a parking lot near that area. Be sure to check the official website in advance. First, we would like to introduce the "Family Slope." It is 250 meters long and has an average slope of 7 degrees, making it perfect for beginners and small children to practice on skiing and snowboarding! The lifts are also safe and slow, with two seats. There are also rental sets for skis and other equipment available for a fee. We also recommend the "sledding slope." Here you can enjoy tube sledding, and what makes it stand out is the scale of the slope, which is one of the largest in Japan! It's a long course that slides down 200m in one go. Not only children, but adults too will be hooked. The tube sleds are free to use, so it would be fun to compete with each family member's sled. Snowshoeing is one of the activities you can enjoy for free. You can either rent a set of equipment at the Mori no Koryukan and explore the "Takino no Mori Zone," or rent at the Country House and walk along the "Snowshoe Course." It's a wonderful experience to enjoy nature while walking on the fluffy snow that you can't walk on with shoes. On the other hand, "walking skiing" may be a bit more strenuous than a stroll. But don't worry. There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses, and you can choose the distance for each course. Why not start with the 1km beginner course?

For small children who are too young for tube sledding, we recommend the "Kids' Sledding Corner" next to the sledding slope. Let your children learn the fun of playing in the snow on plastic sleds that can be borrowed for free.

I hope you've learned that Takino Snow World has many activities that families and beginners can enjoy. Even tourists from outside Hokkaido who are not used to snow can easily try it out. Of course, there are many more activities that we couldn't cover here. Be sure to check out the official website and enjoy a variety of activities that will help you forget the cold. ▼For more information, please see the Domingo spot page.
