Enjoy Nature to the Fullest! Fun-Filled Recreation at Sapporo Satoland

At Sapporo Satoland in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, you can enjoy various activities that change with the seasons. This time, we visited their "Winter Recreation" event, which was held until February 20th (*in 2022). We hope this serves as a reference for your visit next winter. We'll also introduce other activities and events, so please read on.

Sapporo Satoland is about a 30-minute drive from central Sapporo. It's also accessible by subway and bus, making it a great spot for tourists from outside Hokkaido to visit.

As an agricultural experience and exchange facility for Sapporo City, its areas have been opening in stages since 1995, and it now boasts a site area equivalent to 14 Sapporo Domes. Once you arrive, first head to the Satoland Center, where the reception desk is located. The inside of the center is also very spacious!

While it's best to check the official website beforehand to see what recreational activities are available on the day of your visit, you can also confirm at the reception desk here at the center.

First up is the "Banana Boat." Pulled by a snowmobile, riding the banana boat across the snow is incredibly exhilarating! Even young children can enjoy it with an adult.

If you're looking for more thrills, we recommend the "Nori-Nori Tube." This is also an attraction pulled by a snowmobile, but it's incredibly powerful as you get swung around by the meandering vehicle! Feel free to shout your heart out.

Tired from the snow attractions? How about finding some solace with the animals? Feeding the gentle-looking goats and sheep will surely warm your heart during this brief interaction.

Furthermore, on the "Horse-drawn Sleigh," Ban'ei draft horses, famous from Ban'ei horse racing, will pull the sleigh for you. Just seeing the solid, dignified figure of the Ban'ei horses up close and feeling their power is a moving experience in itself.

For snow fun that young children can enjoy, the "Sato no Sori Yama" (Sledding Hill) is recommended. You can slide down the gentle slope on a sled you bring yourself. Also, building a snowman at the "Snowman Square" is surprisingly fun, as you can see the creator's personality shine through.

From here, let's introduce some activities and events you can enjoy outside of the winter season. First is the "Butter-Making Workshop," held daily all year round. You might just awaken to the joy of making things by hand!

The "Ice Cream-Making Workshop," available for a limited time in the summer, is also popular. The taste of ice cream you make yourself is exceptional!

At the hands-on farm, you can harvest various vegetables depending on the season. It's great that you can participate without a reservation.

Although held irregularly, the Farmers' Market is also recommended. It's an event to promote the season's harvest and a chance to buy produce directly from local farmers.

Did you know that Sapporo Satoland has a cute mascot character? His name is "Gungun." He appears during events, so let's have fun playing a game of rock-paper-scissors with him!

Sapporo Satoland is incredibly vast. If it's your first visit, it's fun to explore the expansive park by riding the SL Bus that tours the grounds. Depending on the season, you might enjoy a relaxing and healing moment, like when the lavender is in full bloom as shown in the photo above.

We've given you a quick tour, but this isn't all. In the summer, various other facilities open, such as "Park Golf," "Rental Bicycles," "Novelty Bicycles," "Pony Rides," "Horse-drawn Carriages," and the "Satoland Market."

If you're interested, why not check out the official website? You're sure to discover something new each time you visit with the changing seasons.
