Traveling in a campervan allows you the freedom to travel as you please, without having to decide where to stay for the day. Many of you may want to experience this at least once. It is a great way to enjoy the outdoors without being affected by the weather, and it is perfect for with-corona travel scenes! With this as a tailwind, the demand for rental cars and the number of users have been soaring in recent years.

In Muroran City, the "City of Iron," a paid parking space "RV Park" has opened for overnight stays for campers and trailers, as well as passenger cars, so we looked into it!

Muroran's first RV Park has an ocean view!

RV Park Muroran ZEKKEI BASE CAMP" opened in April 2022. We asked Yuko Ishii, the representative of ZEKKEI BASE CAMP, what she recommends!

The best thing about ZEKKEI BASE CAMP is the view! The Rinkai Park is right in front of the RV park, and it is beautiful not only during the daytime but also in the evening during the magic hour, when even the locals are surprised by the beauty. Of course, it depends on the weather, but the contrast between the bright red sunset and the silhouette of Daikoku Island (an uninhabited island in Muroran Harbor) is also impressive, and I would like more people to know about it."

That island was uninhabited, wasn't it? How cute! And if I were to see a sunset like this, I would certainly be drawn to it....

It takes about 5 minutes by car to get to a convenience store and a gas station, but it is sandwiched between "Michi no Eki Mitarano Muroran" and "Muroran Onsen Yurara," so I think it is a convenient location for shopping, bathing, etc. We are also considering a collaboration project with the nearby "Shukutsu Shotenkai," so please check the official reservation site for the latest information!

Check out the RV park facilities!

Here are the facilities you should be interested in!

Number of sites: 6 sites in total (4 sites with power supply 3300yen x 4 sites, 2 sites without power supply 2750yen x 2 sites)
Site size: 7m x 7m each
Check-in: 14:00-, Check-out: -10:00
Water and trash cans are available at all sites.

If you have a charcoal grill or stove, you can bring in fresh seafood from the port town and have a BBQ while enjoying the view of the ocean. This is a unique attraction of this RV park that is not easily found at roadside stations or public parking lots!

...Oh, no, I don't see a reception desk. Oh, by the way, I don't see a reception desk. That's right, this RV park is fully online from reservation to payment. On the day of your stay, there is no check-in, no check-out, and no payment! This may be convenient!

There is no on-site staff, but electricity, water, and garbage are available with keys in a key box with a PIN code. Only guests will be notified of the PIN number and emergency contact information. This way, even if you check in late, you can drive without any fuss.â

According to Mr. Ishii, there have been about 30 groups of guests during the GW period alone since the opening on April 29.

We started off in a flurry and actually didn't focus much on PR, so to be honest, we were surprised by the number of visitors," he said. We have reservations from all over the country for the summer as well, so we hope many people will come to see the spectacular view of Muroran!

This year's operation is scheduled to last until the end of October. In addition to the official reservation site, reservations can also be made through a website called "Kuruma Tabi," which is used by campervan users.

The reservation site allows reservations up to three months in advance, so why not add an RV park with spectacular views as an option for your outing this summer?
